How to rotate pdf pages permanently

You scan a document, only to find out it’s upside down. You could head to the scanner again and get some movement into your body, but you’re not sure which way to orient the page. Here’s how to do it from your computer instead.

  1. Open the file in Adobe Reader
  2. Choose the menu option View->Rotate View->Clockwise
  3. Choose the menu option File->Print
  4. Choose to print to a PDF driver.  This is native in Windows 10.
  5. If you don’t have a PDF printer driver, try this one:

winetricks fails when installing vcrun2010

You run
winetricks vcrun2010

But get the message:

Note: command ‘wget -O msxml3.msi -nd -c –read-timeout=300 –retry-connrefused –header Accept-Encoding: gzip,deflate’ returned status 8. Aborting.
vcrun2010 failed

The VC2010 runtime redistributable setup needs to load msxml3. winetricks tries to download it from a location in the website where it is no longer available. Instead, search the web for the file “msxml3.msi” and edit winetricks to point to it, eg:

vi winetricks

Find the load_msxml3 function, and replace the download location:

w_download msxml3 d4c2178dfb807e1a0267fce0fd06b8d51106d913

w_download msxml3

How to open a .eml file in Outlook 2007

If you try to open a .eml file in Outlook 2007, it will create a new message containing the .eml file as an attachment.

In order to read .eml files from Outlook 2007, you need to pass the /eml argument to outlook.exe . This Microsoft kb article describes how to tweak the windows registry to accomplish this.

Essentially you need to edit the HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/Microsoft Internet Mail Messageshellopencommand default value to :
“%ProgramFiles%Microsoft OfficeOffice12OUTLOOK.EXE” /eml “%1”

To revert back to using Outlook Express, set the value of the same key to:
“%ProgramFiles%Outlook Expressmsimn.exe” /eml:%1
